Learning Your Rolex Watch Lingo

If you’re in the market for a Rolex watch, or any luxury watch for that matter, there are common terms used to described watch anatomy and features. Understanding what these terms mean can help you choose the watch that is right for you. Here are some words you might see when researching watches:
Automatic or self-winding – A watch with a mechanical movement, as opposed to a quartz or electrical movement.Bezel – The ring that surrounds the watch face. It is usually made out of gold, gold plate, or stainless steel.Cases – The case of the watch refers to the 3 main parts of the watch –the bezel, the band, and the back.Chronograph – A style of watch that has stopwatch functions. There are a few different styles, but many have 2 or 3 subdials.Crown – Also called the stem or pin, it is the button on the side that allows you to set the time and date.Flyback hand – The seconds hand on a chronograph watch that can be used to measure time laps.Skeleton watch – A watch with no dial and only a chapter ring. Most of the metal is removed and remaining parts are usually engraved.Tachymeter – A feature on chronograph watches that measure your speed over a measured distance.
